Metahuman Press’ own online story of not so heroic superhuman beings has entered its third month of publication and continues strong.

In the past week, we have learned the harrowing origin of Garrett “Stomp” Vos. But that is only the beginning of what will become a much longer, much harder life for our young heroes.

The new book features four stories featuring gods and goddesses in a distinctly modern setting. Heroes or villains, the book is the first in a series that will focus on the effects deities of the past might have on the modern world. Of course, we wouldn’t tell these stories without plenty of action and intrigue as well.

Long time Metahuman Press contributors Teel James Glenn and Viktor Kowalski each provide a story for the book. Glenn gives readers “Too Much Whine” while Kowalski combines rock music and Norse mythology in “The Spirit of Metal”. Newcomer Bonnie J. Sterling joins Metahuman Press for what we hope will be the first of many stories with “Ice Beauty.” Series editor Nicholas Ahlhelm closes out the book with “Deserted,” the first of a series of stories that will continue throughout the Modern Gods series.

The new book introduces a new smaller five by eight format that allows us to offer more story for less money! The new edition is available now for the low price of eight dollars at our Amazon store.

With the first volume of Modern Gods only a few weeks away, Metahuman Press is proud to open a call for submissions for our third volume of the series, focusing on the gods of Norse mythology.

We want to see proposals for 10,000 word stories focused on Thor, Loki, Heimdall, Baldr or your favorite Norse mythological figure as they suddenly find themselves in a modern setting. Stories should feature the Norse god as a major protagonist but may feature other pieces of Norse mythology as well. ALL STORIES MUST HAVE A MODERN REAL WORLD SETTING.

Please send a proposal of no more than 500 words to submissions(at)metahumanpress(dot)com. Deadline for submissions is March 15. Once stories are approved, final story deadline is July 15. Please read our full short story submission guidelines before submitting.

This chapter also features the revival, albeit brief, of a Golden Age superhero from Centaur Comics, Mighty Man. Mighty Man was never much of a character to write about as he was little more than a bland costume and a few bits of 40s animation inspired weirdness. As a short lived character from the time period, his simple nature seemed perfect to set him up as the first character to encounter our strange mysterious character in the past.

Next week, the third lead in our series makes his debut, but do not worry, it will not be long before we introduce a few females to the mix as well.
